What to do with Grandma in Starfield

Traveling through space isn't a bad idea for retirement.

So, I met Grandma in Starfield the other day. I hailed her ship as I noticed it passing over. Grandma replied, inviting me over for some free food. “What the hell?”, I thought, and docked with her ship. Sure enough, there was a plate of Shepard’s pie waiting for me. I ate it while wandering the ship. And then I might have robbed Grandma.

It was an accident. Well, kind of. If you decide to enter Grandma’s ship, you’ll notice that just about everything can be taken without it getting marked as stolen. And so as I perused her ship’s cargo, the Starfield instincts took over when I saw there were 971 credits worth taking and no ‘steal’ icon in sight. It was an error in judgment, and I greatly regret my spiteful actions.

How to find and interact with Grandma in Starfield

Grandma, or Grandmother, is apparently a free-roaming NPC in Starfield. I have gathered from other Grandma-visitors that she randomly appears during your travels in space. She’ll hail you, or you can hail her, and you get a warm invite to come aboard. Grandma doesn’t seem to judge or discriminate, so Vanguard soldiers and Crimson Fleet pirates won’t get turned away. She isn’t hostile, according to the reports. Even if you rob her blind (on purpose or by accident) she doesn’t seem to care. All she wants is for you to have a full belly before you go on your way.

I chatted with Grandma to ease my guilty conscience. We talked about her kids, her deceased husband, and a nudist she invited over once for lunch. She’s led quite the life. Oh, and before I get dragged to the curb, I did end up tipping her 1,000 credits before I left. I felt bad.

If you happen to find Grandma in Starfield, feel free to join her for a good chat and some food. There doesn’t seem to be anything like an optional quest tied to the encounter. She’s just a friendly NPC enjoying her retirement.

But try not to steal her cash. She needs it for more Shepard’s pie.
