What is the level cap in Helldivers 2?

More levels, more Liber-Tea.

As you’d expect in any co-op multiplayer shooter, players earn levels in Helldivers 2 by earning XP for completing missions.

However, players are rushing through these levels and hitting the cap, which is, admittedly, pretty high, and they want to know if there’s any scope for it to be increased in the future. Personally, I just want to know how long I have left to grind out missions before I can stop feeling inadequate compared to everyone I matchmake with.

What is the current level cap in Helldivers 2?

The current level cap in Helldivers 2 is 50. While some players were able to hit this within a month and a half of the game’s release, the rest of us took a bit longer. It’s not so high that you’ll never hit it, meaning you’ve usually always got something to aim for while playing.

From what I’ve experienced, the average player level is between 15 and 25. This will increase with the game’s age, meaning most players will likely be at level 50 within a few more months. If developer Arrowhead Game Studios is planning to increase it, I believe the best time would be towards the end of 2024. If this level cap changes, I’ll update this section of the article.

Will the Helldivers 2 level cap be increased?

At the time of writing, Arrowhead Game Studios has not officially confirmed whether the level cap in Helldivers 2 will be increased in the future. That said, we’re almost a month and a half into the game’s life, and players are already hitting the level cap and wanting more.

One player contacted the developer on Discord and asked if the level cap could be raised in the future. A member of staff told them that while there are no firm plans right now, the intention is for the game to be live and entertain players for years. They don’t see how the level cap could remain the same for years but reiterated that this shouldn’t be taken as confirmation because no one knows how the game will evolve.

This should give you hope for a level cap increase in Helldivers 2 in the future, but take it with a pinch of salt. If the level cap increases, there’d need to be a good reason, such as new Boosters to unlock. That increased level could also play into new difficulty modes. I can’t see how the game could get harder than Helldive difficulty, but I’m sure the developer will find a way.

Another good reason to raise the level cap would be for future Warbonds. These battle passes give players a reason to keep jumping into missions and earning Medals to spend. While there’s no need to raise the level cap to keep these going, it would add a lovely sense of progression outside of the near gear that makes our time feel even more valuable.
