What is Alternate Ammo in Call of Duty MW3?

Those pesky weekly challenges are starting to pile up.

If you’re completing weekly or daily challenges in Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone, you might run into a few difficulties. One of which is not knowing what you’re supposed to do to complete the challenge.

Some challenges simply state, ‘do this’ without telling you what this is. One of those is getting Alternate Ammo kills, but what does that actually mean?

In Modern Warfare 3, you can equip Alternate Ammo to certain weapons when creating a loadout. On the screen where you equip attachments, like the optic, muzzle, and under barrel, for example, find one that has an ammo option. These usually add some effect to the bullets the gun fires, like adding flinch or bullet velocity.

One commonly used gun for this option is the current Warzone SMG meta, the HRM-9. Under ammunition, the 9MM High Grain Rounds are one of the best loadout options for the class. It’ll also be exactly what you need to complete the Alternate Ammo kill challenges.

Be wary, as adding many of the ammo types to a gun often increases recoil or changes it in some other way. You might need a new stock, an under barrel, or a little bit of practice to use the same weapon with extra bullet velocity.

How to complete the Alternate Ammo challenges

For the weekly challenges of getting 30 Alternate Ammo kills, for example, you just need to equip the ammo attachment. This is viable on any gun in the game that uses the attachment slot. Once equipped, simply boot up a multiplayer match and earn 30 kills. Once finished, the challenge should show as completed. If it doesn’t, as some have reported in the past with bugged challenges, just swap to a different Alternate Ammo type and do it again.
