What about us? Japan gets a DS/DSi price drop

Recommended Videos

Nintendo Japan has announced a DS hardware price drop. Starting June 19th, the DS Lite will drop from what it is now, 16,800 yen, to “open pricing,” which means that retailers can plop whatever price on them that they’d like to get rid of them.

The DSi drops from 18,900 yen to 15,000 (about $163) on the same date.

The DSi LL drops from 20,000 yen to 18,000 ($196) too. Note that these new prices are good for the new colors that were just announced.

I know that these prices don’t translate well to ours, but I hope they point to a price drop here too. They almost have to, as we’ll see the shiny new 3DS at E3 and then won’t care about our new DSi XL anymore.

Would a price drop here have you buying a new DS-family system? Or are you going to wait to see what this 3D nonsense is all about?
