We could see procedurally generated content in WoW

This game ain’t dead yet

It appears as if the World of Warcraft team may be mixing things up beyond an expansion in the future. Speaking to Rock Paper Shotgun, Blizzard’s lead content designer Cory Stockton noted that since people “burn through content,” procedurally generated areas may be in the cards for a future update.

Stockton goes on to say, “If we could build enough content, we would. Procedural content is totally something we’ve talked about. The conversation of procedural and how it’d work in WoW is totally a topic that we’ve talked about.” This content would only be a “supplement” of course, as handcrafted content would still be at the forefront. In fact, the potential plan according to Stockton is a mix of Blizzard created instances and randomized dungeons, or even randomized enemy abilities to mix things up.

So if you thought WoW was dead, think again. Blizzard is not only gearing up for a new expansion launch, but they’re even talking beyond that target. Expect coverage of World of Warcraft‘s Warlords of Draenor in the future, including hands-on impressions whenever a build arrives.
