A situation that led to God of War Ragnarok being leaked has led to a full confirmation of said leak from the game’s producer (Cory Barlog), a bit of venting, and a public warning.

As Barlog points out, a retailer has broken street date and soldĀ God of War RagnarokĀ roughly two weeks before the November 9 release date; leading to posts online about the game, including screens, and down the line, potentially spoiler-related content. Consider this your warning!

Here’s a full recap of Barlog’s sentiments on Twitter over the weekend:

“You know, right now, I can really understand the benefit of having just an installer on the physical disc. Smh. A retailer selling the game nearly TWO WEEKS before release. just so disappointing. Sorry to everyone that you have to dodge the spoilers if you want to play the game fresh. completely fucking stupid you have to do this. this is not at all how any of us at SMS wanted things to go. To be clear, I was expressing my frustration in the first tweet. not advocating for that at all. Not the future i want as a gamer or dev. just so beyond frustrated. Feel terrible for the team. This whole ordeal is incredibly stressful for us all. Mental health break time.”

On the bright side, for Sony, God of War as a whole is a pretty impenetrable franchise that people will buy regardless. By that same token, it’s also so massive that a leak was almost inevitable: though several weeks early is not really the norm in many cases.

The big takeaway for everyone: be careful if you want to avoid spoilers!
