Warner Premiere confirms Mortal Kombat live-action series

In a press release today, Warner Premiere confirmed reports that a live-action series of web videos based on Mortal Kombat and directed by Kevin Tancharoen is in production. The press release confirms that the series will begin shooting this February in Vancouver with plans for a spring release. Hey, doesn’t the new Mortal Kombat game come out in April. What a startling coincidence!

Warner Premiere has described the series as “an anthology of multiple live action shorts, each providing never-before-revealed insights into characters featured in the upcoming videogame as well as the game’s universe.” Forgetting for a moment that “anthology” implies “multiple,” characters mentioned specifically include Scorpion, Johnny Cage and Liu Kang. No details regarding casting (even to confirm Michael Jai White’s return as Jax) have been provided at this time.

I dug the short film that spawned this, so I choose to remain optimistic.
