Warner Bros offers 33 million to purchase Midway assets

Well, things at Midway have been changing radically to say the least for some time now, but today we found out that a prediction we made earlier in the year has in fact come to pass. We thought that perhaps Warner Bros. might be interested in scooping up Midway’s US assets since they were documented as having made frequent trips to the Midway offices. Today, it was confirmed that Warner Bros. has made a $33 million bid for all of those assets.

If the bid is accepted, Warner Bros. will walk away with Midway’s Seattle and Chicago development studios, along with the Mortal Kombat franchise. Studios not included are San Diego and the Newcastle location in the UK. The TNA franchise is also not included in this deal. Some more information from Midway’s statement:

“The bidding procedures, if approved, would require interested parties to submit binding offers to acquire some or all of the company’s assets within approximately 30 days of court approval of the bid procedures. Assuming qualified bids are submitted, an auction would be held a few days prior to the sale hearing. A court hearing approving the sale to the winning bidder or bidders would be held soon after the conclusion of the auction, followed by a final closing.”

I wonder what this may mean for gamers. I was just talking about Mortal Kombat with friends a few days ago and saying how cool it would be if it got a really solid revival. I think I just want a reason to blast the amazing Mortal Kombat techno song again. Wait, I don’t need a reason. I’m going to dance on my balcony right freaking now.
