VVVV: The 4KB Java demake of VVVVVV

Admittedly, that is going to be one heck of a confusing headline for anyone not acquainted with Terry Cavanagh’s ridiculously fun platformer VVVVVV. I’m perfectly fine with that, though. If you don’t know the wondrous joys of that game, you deserve such treatment.

VVVV was submitted by Markus Persson to the Java4K 2010 competition. As the name of the contest implies, the concept of flipping gravity was squeezed down into a tiny 4KB game using Java. Unlike most games entered into Java4K, VVVV retains a lot of what makes VVVVVV so great.

Go play the thing! It’ll take a second to load, plus it’s completely free. See if you can get past the part I’m stuck on (pictured above), which is like less than a minute in.
