Sega’s hoping that Virtua Fighter 5 will find a following on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. The publisher has announced that it’ll be releasing the standalone Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown for Xbox 360 and PS3 next summer.

The game is said to had ea “full overhaul” of the game’s fighting mechanics, including new balance, animations, new arenas, and a new fighter, Jean Kujo.

New fighting mechanics appear to be geared towards newbies of the historically “hardcore” fighter. In the announcement, Sega mentions “simplified controls for new players while retaining depth that veterans demand.”

We expect to hear more about the fighter at the Penny Arcade Expo later this week, so keep checking back for details.
