Video Games Live takes to Kickstarter to fund third album

Because music publishers still don’t get game music

Maybe you’ve been to a Video Games Live concert. Maybe, like me, you loved it, and sought out past CD and DVD releases. The show has only gotten better with time as they incorporate more and more music into the program, and as it is now, they have enough material for the next volume to be released.

The problem is that music publishers don’t want to take a risk on a game music CD featuring titles like Shadow of the Colossus, Beyond Good & Evil, Chrono Trigger/Cross, and Journey. So VGL founder Tommy Tallarico is taking to Kickstarter to get it done, and is including some pretty awesome backer bonuses like lunch with the audio team at Blizzard Entertainment, among others. Electronic music fans might be excited to hear artist BT will be providing an exclusive remix to the project as well.

For all those worried about appropriation of funds, Tallarico will lay out a transparent budget as to what things will cost, and apparently top performers playing quality instruments are quite costly. Still, I’m looking forward to the titles above plus Skyrim, Earthworm Jim, and more on CD, so I’ll be supporting this.

Chime in and let us know about your favorite VGL moments. Is a third volume worthy of your backing?
