Vib Ribbon fan-made browser game, Vib Riboff

Vib Ribbon was awesome, and is still one of my favorite games in my retro CD-based games collection. No, it doesn’t have shaved headed army manz running around in spacesuits with laser guns, but I still love it, and I think I love everyone I’ve ever met that loves it.

I don’t know Robert Böhnke’s yet, but I think I love him too. His homage to the Japanese PlayStation classic game is called Vib Riboff. Clever. It uses HTML5 to make a browser-based videogame out of music. The game pulls from  songs stored on SoundCloud. Through software the game hears rhythmic elements in the music and uses them to create obstacles in the track, as you’ll see in the above video.

When it’s all said and done, any music from SoundCloud will work. People will then be able to turn any song into a game.

I can’t wait to try this out.
