Eurovision: totally known for its dark, brooding songs and stuff
Ask anybody in Europe what the most important event of the year is, and we will all have the same answer. From Portugal to Russia, Birmingham to Baku, we will all join in unison to shout to the heavens that the one shining light in this cruel, bitter world is of course… The Eurovision Song Contest.
Last year’s contest was admittedly a bit naff – too many ballads, not enough tin foil or dancing old ladies – but the overall winner was Sweden with Måns Zelmerlöw’s ‘Heroes’, and the song’s pretty dang good!
When Zelmerlöw stood on stage on the best day of his life, with confetti falling around him and an entire continent cheering for him, I don’t think he expected his song to be featured in a trailer about brutally slaughtering rat men. But that’s exactly what’s happened.
The song has been used in the trailer for Fatshark’s newest DLC for Warhammer: The End Times – Vermintide. Titled the impossible-to-spell Schluesselschloss, the DLC brings with it one new map, The Fall, to the game’s Last Stand horde mode. You can pick up the DLC on Steam for $2.99.
Personally I think it’s a bit pricey for one map, but that’s besides the point. Of all the songs in the world to use, why use the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest? Fatshark is also Swedish, and the song is adequately morbid with stuff like “What if I’m the only hero left,” but I’m sure there are a billion other songs about dying horribly they could’ve used.
Right, homework for you lot: I need the trailer re-dubbed with Romania’s 2013 entry on my desk by Friday. Ta!
