Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 needs more time

It’s releasing later than expected in 2020

In their effort to make a “worthy successor” to Bloodlines, Hardsuit Labs and Paradox Interactive have made the call to push back Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. According to narrative lead Brian Mitsoda, the team has “decided to value quality over making the Q1 launch window.”

“There are some things we wanted to hit under all circumstances when we set out to follow in Bloodlines‘ footsteps: A deep, branching storyline; fascinating and amazingly acted characters; the rich universe of the World of Darkness,” Hardsuit said today in a letter to fans. “We firmly believe that we’re on the right track to get you all of this. On the flip side, there’s the responsibility to avoid some of the issues that plagued the first game, which was famously launched too early.”

People adore Bloodlines to this day, but it’s a heavily patched and modded game. With this delay, Bloodlines 2 is still planning to launch in 2020, just not during the first quarter of the year.

This isn’t terribly surprising I mean, we didn’t even have a release date before but Paradox’s transparency here is appreciated. We’ve waited so long for a potential sequel. Now that we’re finally getting one, waiting another few months doesn’t sound too bad at all. Besides, Q1 2020 is happenin’. The Last of Us Part II in February; Final Fantasy VII Remake, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Watch Dogs: Legion, and Doom Eternal in March; Cyberpunk 2077 not long after in April the list goes on.

It’s not all glum news for impatient Vampire: The Masquerade fans, though: we’ll get to see more of Bloodlines 2 at this weekend’s PDXCon in Berlin. Look for a live stream on Paradox’s Twitch channel.

This is another one of those curious late-in-the-cycle games. Plenty of people will just go for the PC version given the legacy, but Bloodlines 2 is also supposed to launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
