Ever since Left 4 Dead 2‘s announcement and the nerd rage of supposed “fans” who can’t bear to see a sequel to a game they love, one thing has been consistently thrown in my face — a quote from Gabe Newell, claiming that Left 4 Dead 1 would get a load of support from Valve. Now I have a quote of my own to throw at the boycotters — Gabe Newell stating that those original plans aren’t changing.
“Doing a sequel in one year is new for Valve. But providing ongoing support for our titles after the initial launch isn’t — it has been part of our philosophy since Half-Life was released ten and half years ago,” says Newell. “We see no reason to change that and will continue to support the over three million customers in the L4D community.
“Some in the community are concerned that the announcement of L4D2 implied a change in our plans for L4D1. We aren’t changing our plans for L4D1.”
Patches, mod support, and new content all remain on the cards for the original game, which is great news for those who currently claim to be boycotting L4D2. I say “claim,” because I severely doubt that the 25,000-strong army of moral indignance will stick to their guns with it actually comes out. It’ll be fun to see just how many crumble and reneg when the game hits later this year.
