Valve announces Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

There were some recent teases for the next Counter-Strike game, and now it’s official: Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has been announced by Valve for release on Steam (PC and Mac), PlayStation Network, and Xbox Live Arcade in early 2012. Wasn’t expecting that at all — awesome!

Global Offensive will have fresh maps, characters, and weapons, as one would expect, in addition to updated takes on classic CS content (de_dust was the example given), new modes, matchmaking, and leaderboards. It’s being developed by Valve in cooperation with Hidden Path Entertainment.

It’s about time, huh? Counter-Strike is somehow more than ten years old. What. You’ll have the opportunity to play it at both PAX Prime and the Eurogamer Expo 2011.
