Utilize CBT to help the undead in Vampire Therapist

And how did that make you feel?

In a new trailer, Little Bat Games revealed a bit more of their upcoming mental health-’em-up, Vampire Therapist. It’s going to take every ounce of my concentration not to accidentally write Vampire Survivors.

Vampire Therapist puts you in the boots of a vampire who is also a therapist. And also a cowboy, for some reason. Apparently, centuries of experience have done nothing to fortify the well-being of the undead, so they, too, need some therapy. The protagonist, Sam, may be rootin’ tootin’, but he’s new to the psychology trade.

Vampire Therapist pulls from the literal cognitive behavioral therapy textbook, incorporating real-world theories into its choice-driven gameplay. According to the Store Page, you’ll be helping lift the mental weight from “self-hating vampires, agoraphobic social media addicts, supernatural narcissists, and victims of centuries-old capitalistic systems.”

Frankly, everyone could do with a little more insight into their mental health. Even if you’re not in crisis, the things you learn through cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can help you navigate when things do start to get choppy. Personally, CBT didn’t do much for me, and now I’m with a therapist who does dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), but that’s not to say that CBT isn’t still an effective treatment. It’s a worthwhile skill to have.

And despite involving real-world therapy techniques, Vampire Therapist also promises to be a “comedic look through history.” Thank goodness, because too much of the present reality is bad for your mental health.

Vampire Therapist is currently slated for release in Q2 2024 for PC.
