(Update) Zelda producer hints that Skyward Sword might be coming to Switch

Non-waggle, here we come

[Update: A “Nintendo spokesperson” has confirmed to Eurogamer that “at this time, there are no plans to release Skyward Sword on Switch.” I mean, it’s a good way to calm the waters after Aonuma cannonballed into the pool, as it still could very well be on the way.]

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword had myriad problems: repeating the exact same formula over and over for each area, Fi straight-up telling you how to solve puzzles before you even attempt them, an overabundance of collecathons. But my biggest gripe was actually how much Miyamoto and company forced motion controls into nearly every facet of the game.

The joy of actually swinging a sword as Link? Priceless. The “joy” of constantly deadzoning Wiimotes as I “hurled” bombs or needlessly waggled the remote to fly or engage in minute activities like shimmying on a vine? Not so much. So yes, I would absolutely welcome a chance to revisit this beautiful world with its incredible dungeon design and memorable bosses with a new control scheme. We might get that chance sooner than later.

According to multiple attendees at a Legend of Zelda concert in Osaka, Japan, big boss producer Eiji Aonuma came out on stage and teased the port, stating: “We know what you are thinking, Skyward Sword on Switch, right?” The declaration was allegedly met with applause but Aonuma wouldn’t elaborate further.

Given that Nintendo is hell bent on restoring basically every 3D Zelda at some point you had to know this was coming. Hopefully it’ll come with their trademark “rough edge smoothing” on top of the new visual sheen.
