[Update: DotEmu has released the new trailer for Streets of Rage 4, starring cybernetic new character Floyd Iraia. In addition to this reveal, the publisher announced the game will launch this spring and feature both online multiplayer for two players, or offline co-op for four.]

DotEmu, the publisher for upcoming brawler Streets of Rage 4, has announced its intention to drop a new update on the title this week. Fans can expect the reveal of the sequel’s fifth playable character, and possibly a “little surprise” as well. The news will likely come out of this week’s PAX East trade show, where SoR 4 will also be playable.

The current quartet of vigilantes waiting to lay waste to the scum of the streets consists of original Streets of Rage stars Axel Stone, Blaze Fielding, and Adam Hunter, rounded out with Adam’s hard-rocking daughter Cherry. The identity of the fifth hero is teased by a silhouette in the game’s splash art.

As for the “little surprise,” here’s hoping its something as simple as a release date, because I tell ya, the wait is absolutely killing me. In the meantime, check out some of the cool behind-the-scenes development videos that we previously reported on here and here.

Streets of Rage 4 launches spring 2020 on PS4, PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
