Break-it Early Test Application

[Update: Some new information about the beta has come out on the official website for Fallout 76. It looks like you’ll need to pre-order the game to be granted access. Any version will do, so you don’t need to worry about trying to grab the collector’s edition just to try the game early.]

Not content to just tell us that Fallout 76 will be online and launch this year, Bethesda’s Todd Howard let us know that we’ll be able to get our hands on the game a bit earlier with a B.E.T.A. version. That acronym isn’t just for show, as it stands for “Break-it Early Test Application”. Howard cheekily stated, “I’ve read on the internet that our games have had a few bugs,” referring to how a lot of Bethesda’s games have launched alongside a heap of bugs. “It just doesn’t work.”

Ideally, the beta will be used to help stress test the servers for Fallout’s big multiplayer debut. It should also help cut down on the amount of oddities in the game world, though it wouldn’t be a Bethesda game without some weird things happening.

Since the game is coming out in November, we could easily expect this beta in the next month or so. At the very least, it should be heading to all platforms, though nothing was confirmed.
