(Update) Borderlands 3 is out in September: cover art somehow doesn’t have a guy with a three-fingered gun

It’s more peaceful this time

[Update: Gearbox has confirmed the SKU arrangement, as well as a September 13, 2019 release date for Borderlands 3. It will be exclusive to the Epic Store on PC for six months and there will be a gameplay reveal on May 1.]

The box art for Borderlands 3 has leaked, and through said box we’ve learned a lot more about how Gearbox intends to distribute the game.

The standard edition is simple enough: it’s the Borderlands Guy (Psycho) holding three fingers up, and not holding a finger gun to his head (thankfully). As our own Occams points out it has a real Our Lady of Guadalupe vibe. Naturally though since this is Gearbox, it’s going to have a ton of different editions to choose from. There’s a “Deluxe Edition” with a red backdrop, “Super Deluxe Edition” with gold (how zany!), and a “Diamond Loot Chest Collector’s Edition.”

Now the latter is worth spending a second on, because according to the listing it includes: a loot chest replica, a Sanctuary 3-Snap Model, 10 character figurines, five character art lithographs, four vault key keychains, a cloth map of the galaxy, the game (that needs to be pointed out these days), a steelbook case, a season pass (of course), the content from the deluxe edition, and a gold weapon skins pack.

Gearbox responded to the leak in jest, noting that it’ll reveal more at 9AM ET today.
