In UTD, there are two ways to significantly buff the overall DPS and range of your units: equipping relics and rerolling traits on them. Relics can be switched out and saved for later use, while traits can only be rerolled, overwriting the previous one. Now, grinding Trait Rerolls can be challenging, and it is very easy to run out of them. With that in mind, we prepared the following Universal Tower Defense trait tier list so that you know which traits to target when rerolling them on your best units.
Universal Tower Defense Trait Tier List
In the above Universal Tower Defense trait tier list, we ranked all traits based on their overall strength when applied to most of the meta units currently available. Based on our testing, the best traits are Ruler, Fission, Sacred, and Fortunate. So make sure to look out for them when rerolling traits. Below is a list of all traits in UTD and the units they are recommended for.

Lightspeed | -20% Cooldown | Best Legendary trait for most DPS units. Good to keep if you don’t have too many Trait Rerolls. |
Fortunate | +20% Income | Best trait for farm units like Fastcart and Namo. |
Duelist | +25% Critical Rate +20% Range +35% Boss Damage | An overall improved version of the Lethal trait that works well on all crit-based units. |
Artificer | Increase stats gained from relics by +15% | Good for most units but only viable when used in combo with very well-rolled and upgraded relics. |
Wizard | +30% DoT Damage -15% Cooldown +20% Range | Decent for Spade, Zorus, Admiral, and other units with DoT damage such as Burn, Radiation, etc. |
Astral | +20% Affliction Duration -20% Cooldown +15% Range DoT can now stack Limits to 1 Placement | Amazing, but only works well on units with 1 maximum placement and high DoT damage. |
Sacred | +25% Damage -10% Cooldown +25% Range -15% Cost | Excellent trait for most Mythic units with 3+ maximum placement, such as Spade and Admiral (evolved). |
Eternal | -20% Cooldown +2% and +1% Range per wave (25 wave cap) | Very good overall, providing more DPS than Sacred, though it takes a bit for its effect to ramp up. |
Fission | +15% Damage -15% Cooldown +25% Range Adds Radiation DoT | Best in slot trait for most 3+ maximum placement units in UTD. |
Ruler | +200% Damage -20% Cooldown +30% Range Limits to 1 Placement | Best trait overall for most 1-3 placement units, since it significantly reduces the cost of upgrading them. |
How to Farm Trait Rerolls in Universal Tower Defense
You can get more Trait Rerolls in Universal Tower Defense through the following mechanics:
- Redeeming UTD codes
- Half-hourly, daily, and featured challenges
- Merchant shops in exchange for Gold or event currencies
- Level Milestones
- Quests and achievements
- Daily rewards
- Free and premium battlepass
- From the Store by purchasing Trait Rerolls for Robux
If you just do some challenges and claim your daily rewards, you can earn 20-30 Trait Rerolls every day with little to no effort. Still, you will need to grind a lot of rerolls if you plan to get the best traits on your meta units, so make sure to spend them wisely.
