Why does it seem like the majority of stories about videogame films have something to do with one person or another no longer being attached to projects? Today, the victim is the Hollywood interpretation of Uncharted.

David O. Russell had been in talks to direct the film, but the L.A. Times is reporting that negotiations twixt him and producers eager to get him on board have fallen through. At this point, any dreams that Sony had of getting Uncharted into theaters in 2011 seem to be dashed.

I’m not sure Russell would have been such a great pick for the job anyway. I’m not saying that the guy behind I Heart Huckabees and Spanking the Monkey is incapable of directing the high-octane action Uncharted fans would be expecting. I’m sure he could depict the complex character of Nathan Drake on film but running and explosions? Seemed like a stretch from the beginning.
