Ubisoft’s XDefiant release delayed after not passing certification

Tom Clancy's XDelayed

In a post on the official XDefiant website from Executive Game Director Mark Rubin, it was confirmed that the release of XDefiant is currently delayed. The popular FPS apparently received a Not Pass flag in the submission process for certification. The actual process started at the end of July, with the Not Pass result coming in mid-August. According to Rubin, most of the issues seemed to be related to compliance issues.

“We are currently in the CM prep part of that process and will hopefully be submitting to 1st parties in a little less than 2 weeks,” Rubin stated in the post. “If that Passes cleanly, then we could be looking at a mid-to-end of September release. There is however a likely scenario where we get a conditional Pass meaning we have to do a Day 1 patch with some final fixes to ensure compliance. If we do need to do a Day 1 patch, then that pushes our date out to early/mid-October.”

Typically speaking compliance issues are related to specific issues with first-party platforms. For example, trophies not unlocking properly on PS5, or friends lists not updating correctly. While these are certainly important issues, it’s not as big of a deal as game-breaking bugs or crashes. Release delays are never fun, but in a case like this, it’s definitely important to have some extra love going towards compliance issues. It’s been a couple of years since the FPS was revealed, but fans will have to wait a little longer.

Rubin finished up the post by pointing out that nothing about XDefiant’s development so far has been typical. In Rubin’s words, XDefiant will release “as soon as we can”. XDefiant will eventually release on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
