In what some may consider a Captain Obvious statement, H.A.W.X 2 narrative director Edward Douglas has shared his belief that Kinect won’t be any good for flight sims. While flying controls have had some success on the Wii and iPhone, the total lack of buttons with Microsoft’s motion solution is a step too far.

“My personal thought is that buttons are needed to control an Airplane,” he says. “Why would you go so far away from that kind of authenticity?”

Edwards actually brings up a really good point — Microsoft has boasted that Kinect is all about immersion, but there are plenty of games where a lack of buttons is actually less immersive or realistic than a controller. Shooting games, racing games and flight sims will likely feel far less authentic with Kinect unless they keep the controller as well, and I’m not just saying that because I think Kinect is a big pile of wank. Although I do totally think that.

Either way, it seems that H.A.W.K 2 will not be controlled by your running around the living room with your arms out going “NYEEEEEEEEAAAAAAARRRRRRH.” We’re cut up about that.
