Just Dance is the only exception
If you’re a late adopter who hasn’t picked up a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One yet, don’t expect to play any Ubisoft games moving forward. The French developer and publisher is done making titles for old platforms.
As reported by Kotaku, Ubisoft won’t release any upcoming games on last-gen platforms. The news came during an earnings call for investors which wrapped up the 2014-2015 fiscal year. The exception to this is the Just Dance series, which will continue to get last-gen adaptions, likely because the install base is of a more “casual” nature.
Several publishers have already prioritized current-gen consoles over legacy, as is evident by the many games that see staggered releases with delayed PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. Ubisoft is just the first to completely cut ties. It won’t be long before others follow suit.
