Twitter or Facebook won’t be supported in Wii U Miiverse

When asked about the Wii U’s possible integration of Facebook and Twitter, Nintendo of Europe’s Laurent Fischer was pretty upfront in denying the capability: “I have three devices permanently doing that already, what is our benefit to do so also?” Well, he makes a great point!

He also went on to note the ease of use for the Miiverse, and explained how gamers will feel closer together on their social network rather than others: “the community will be the Wii U owners, who will have this common interest for video games. Our expectation about that is it’s going to be a way to enhance the idea of sharing information on the video game.” A community of gamers? This kind of sounds familiar.

For some people, this lack of support is a great thing. The pervasive amount of social networks in gaming these days is nothing short of annoying, so not having Facebook or Twitter relay your every move is a Godsend. For investors however, I can see this backfiring: Facebook deals can get mighty lucrative.

Also, rebuilding a brand new personal network from the ground up can be intimidating, and by refusing to work with others, Nintendo is creating yet another solitary network that you have to keep track of. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out.
