Twitch cracking down on PS4 living room broadcasts

Only if they break Twitch’s Terms of Service, of course

The PlayStation 4 brought with it an unprecedented ease of streaming with the DualShock 4’s share button, and when a massive wave of new users is mixed with ease-of-use there’s a whole slew of new problems to watch out for. PS4 players have become creative and figured out that Playroom is currently the only way to broadcast a fullscreen camera through the console’s streaming scrape.

The main issue that has cropped up is users have been streaming an array of sexual content that definitely breaks Twitch’s Terms of Service, and obviously causing them to ban said offenders as soon as these streams pop up. But other users have also taken to creating various living room shows through Playroom that — sometimes have nothing to do with gaming at all — are unfortunately against their terms. Shows that are about gaming (including the charming husband and wife duo call-in show The Spartan Show) are within Twitch’s Terms of Service.

Twitch tweeted it would “continue to moderate according to our Terms of Service. Non-gaming content is not allowed,” and “If using PS4 Playroom, the content must be about games or gaming and within our ToS. Thanks for understanding.”
