Turbo looks like ‘Never Back Down’ but for videogames

First, this was Never Back Down. It was actually good. A better example would probably be The Karate Kid … but I digress.

Turbo is a low budget short film that shows us what the future of videogames could hopefully brings us one day. Turbo follows main character Hugo Park who longs to join Pharaoh King’s expert team of gamers. Shamus, the main antagonist of Turbo, also wants to join Pharaoh King’s team so the two battle it out through the 4D fighting game called Super Turbo Arena. Apparently, the future holds amazing advancements in technology but game companies have reverted back to the 1980s standards of naming games based on what the game is about.

What’s really impressive about this short film is how great the visual effects look. A four man team called Ember Lab worked for five months creating the effects and the whole movie was made for under $100,000. The 20 minute film is set to premier on April 30 in Los Angeles and will go on sale on the official Web site as well.

Check out the trailer after the jump. How’s it looking to you?
