Turbine, developer of Lord of the Rings Online, recently axed staff from its QA and Account Management departments. The layoffs, according to a gamesindustry.biz report, were made because the positions were considered redundant.
A spokesman for Turbine spoke to GI and ensured that the layoffs wouldn’t affect quality of service or the three upcoming titles in the developer’s portfolio. In addition to this, the spokesperson said that the studio would continue to grow in 2009 and are currently “still hiring.” Chances are that QA and Account Management aren’t part of that “still hiring” thing.
It’s sad to see people in the videogame industry let go. Even if these guys weren’t in the trenches of development, they still provided for all of us. We wish the best of luck to those who were let go.
