Trolling: EA thanks non-beta testers for SWTOR beta

Electronic Arts still seems to be struggling with this whole, “running an online service on its own” gig, and its latest mis-step is to accidentally troll a vast amount of its customers by rubbing their noses in the fact that they weren’t invited to the Star Wars: The Old Republic beta.

A number of gamers (including our own European editor, Maurice Tan) were sent an email by EA thanking them for taking part in the beta, whether they actually got in or not. Needless to say, fans were both bemused and a little stung by the emails, which BioWare and EA have apologized for.

“We can confirm that these e-mails were from EA and BioWare and apologize for any confusion they have caused,” said the company in a statement. “Please note that receiving these e-mails does not affect your chances to be invited to test the game. Thank you all for your understanding!”

Between this and customers getting screwed out of Battlefield 3 beta access, it seems EA really needs to get its act together if it wants Origin to be a worthy service.
