Traveller’s Tales won’t ‘take the piss’ with its LEGO franchise

From LEGO Star Wars to LEGO Indiana Jones and even LEGO Batman, Traveller’s Tales is making a mint out of merging building blocks and films to create highly popular videogames. With so much potential and a lot of cash at stake, one could be forgiven for thinking that the developer is ready to milk the franchise, and consumers, dry. Tales, however, has a different story.

“There’s an expectation now that there would be a LEGO game per year, and we certainly feel that one or two games would be the right amount per year, otherwise there’d be a saturation of LEGO games and they’d lose the charm,” stated Rich Earl, producer of LEGO Batman.”We’re also conscious that we’re making games for young kids. We don’t want to take the piss out of the consumer and end up making any old rubbish. We’re hoping people feel our games are of a high standard and we want to continue doing that.”

Earl also touched upon the rumors that LEGO Harry Potter was in development, stating that he hopes it happens, but offered no comment as to the validity of the gossip. According to the producer, more Star Wars and Indiana Jones games could be on the way, thanks to TT’s relationship with LucasArts.

Personally I wasn’t fond of LEGO Star Wars, but I can definitely see why the games are so popular. Nice to see that Travellers Tales has no intention of ruining the franchise … however, let’s see what their dark lord Warner Bros. has to say about that.
