Battlefield 6’s season four update hits in a few days, but an interesting new collab will see some Hollywood talent join the game next month.

As part of a collaboration between EA and Paramount Pictures, characters from the Top Gun film franchise will be featured in Battlefield 6 and REDSEC—but Tom Cruise’s Maverick is not one of them.

Top Gun: Maverick? No. This time around, we have Top Gun: Bob and Rooster.

Instead, the update will add Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (played by Miles Teller), Lt. Robert “Bob” Floyd (Lewis Pullman), Adm. Solomon “Warlock” Bates (Charles Parnell), and Top Gun-inspired character skins and cosmetics will be available in-game.

“It’s a huge honor to appear in a long-running franchise like Battlefield with its millions of fans, and talented people working on it,” said Miles Teller. “And with Top Gun, it’s like two titans meeting.”

“I’ll actually be the one giving orders in-game, which I love,” said Charles Parnell. “If it’s my voice that pushes players on to clutch a win, that’s awesome.”

I jest, because the collaboration is pretty cool. When it comes to aerial combat, it doesn’t get much more Hollywood than Top Gun. But collaborating with the IP and not having the titular character is objectively pretty funny. I can only imagine that Tom Cruise’s likeness would have cost way more than it was worth.

The August 18 update will add the F-18 Super Hornet and F-14 Tomcat and a “reimagining” of a classic Battlefield map, Wake Island. The Top Gun additions also include two new modes: Carrier Strike and a new Gauntlet mission in REDSEC.

Season four begins on July 21 and will focus on naval warfare, and I hope we get some more news soon about a sequel to Top Gun: Maverick, because that movie was just plain badass.
