Today on Impulse, we share our thoughts on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate online

The monkey’s paw strikes again!

After our glowing review of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate from Chris Carter — which primarily focused on the single-player components — I decided in today’s episode of Impulse we’d discuss our impressions from the online multiplayer! So, I sat down once again with Associate Editor Peter Glagowski to discuss our time spent wrapping our heads around it.

And boy oh boy, maybe they should have taken a note from Rockstar and slapped the word “beta” on this thing — because it’s arguably the worst online multiplayer the series has had on offer to date. From the questionably bad UI to an online matchmaking system that straight up spoils the competitive scene.

It’s the most on-brand Nintendo online experience and has me questioning why anybody should be paying for their online service in the first place.
