‘So glad my silly little hobby project was sort of not sh*t’ – Mike Bithell
Thomas Was Alone sales have eclipsed the one million mark, creator Mike Bithell revealed yesterday via Twitter.
The minimalist platformer wasn’t an overnight success, though. Thomas Was Alone first arrived on Windows and Mac during the summer of 2012, meaning this milestone took nearly two years to achieve.
Previously, Bithell attributed much of his game’s success to the PlayStation 3 and Vita version that landed last April. The developer called PlayStation Plus “amazing,” adding the platform “inflated [his] audience beyond what a normal esoteric indie platformer would have, which is great.”
Bithell notes the bulk of Thomas Was Alone‘s sales occurred during bundles, discounts, and other promotions; also pointing out the figure doesn’t include PS Plus downloads. If those numbers were included, the total would be “a fair bit higher.”
Thomas Was Alone is currently on offer as a part of this week’s Humble Bundle, in addition to its enduring status as a free downloadable for PS Plus subscribers.
Bithell is presently focusing on his next project, Volume, a stealth game in the vein of Metal Gear Solid, which is expected to launch as a timed-exclusive on PS4 and Vita later this year.
