This old Chinese instrument was made for Mario music

The instrument you’re about to hear is called a sheng. This weird looking Chinese cluster of bamboo flutes has an unexpected sound, and in this video it’s used for an unexpected purpose: to play the Super Mario Bros. music.

You’ll be amazed when you hear how much the sheng’s sound matches the Super Mario Bros. score. I think it sounds like a mallet percussion instrument at times. And the sound effects! The coin and 1UP sounds are perfect.

But someone needs to get this woman a metronome.

RocketNews24 says that shengs are pretty expensive; a Japanese Amazon listing has one priced at over $4,600.
