News came out this weekend that Reika Morishita, the vocalist of the Rockman DASH (Mega Man Legends) opening and ending songs, will be repackaging her MML tunes, and should the album sell 20,000 copies, Capcom might be persuaded to upload the Legends 3 prototype to the eShop. I didn’t post this as a standalone story because, one, this Legends 3 roller coaster really didn’t need another loop, and two, I didn’t think Capcom would be stupid enough to try to hold fans’ hopes to ransom yet again. Couple this with the kind of shenanigans that Capcom has been engaging in as of yet, like the SFxT on-disc DLC saga, and it becomes clear that management needs a shakeup.
If I may be so bold, I’d like to nominate young Mark here for chief operating officer of Capcom Co., Ltd. Mark may be only five-years-old, yet he’s already a huge Mega Man nut. And we’re not talking Star Force mish-mash here but OG Blue Bomber. Sure, he’s barely in grade school, but isn’t it about time we aired out the musty old man scent and gave a youthful entrepreneur a shot at the reins? He’s already got tons of brilliant ideas that could help revitalize the franchise. For instance, take Mega Man 100, an all-star game where 100 of Mega’s old foes return; when you defeat them, instead of simply relinquishing their weapons, they join your party to aid you in battle!
Aside from being absolutely adorable, this video strikes home for me. You see, it was filmed by Mark’s much older cousin Bob, who clearly has influenced this impressionable child. I too have a cousin around Mark’s age, for whom I care for as if he were my brother or even my son. I’ve introduced him to all the games and cartoons I enjoyed as a kid, and he’s taken to them with the same interest I did. Mega Man is likewise one of his favorites, and seeing the wonder on his face as becomes absorbed in that world touches me deeply. It’s like I’m looking at my younger self. To him, it’s all brand new. The fanbase isn’t shrinking, Capcom. Your games mean so much to this new generation, you just don’t realize it.
