There’s a Bluey game coming, and if it’s anything like the show, it’ll make you cry

It's due out in November, and has co-op

Bluey immediately made an impact on the child’s TV scene in 2018, and the world of kids’ programming has never been quite the same. Showrunner Joe Brumm created the show as a result of being tired of poor-quality kids shows flooding the market, and that ethos has served Bluey well. Throughout its three seasons (consisting of over 150 episodes) it’s managed to knock its myriad storylines out of the park, and on occasion, make droves of people cry. I’m skeptical that the upcoming game project will have the same effect on folks, but a dad can dream.

All the info on Bluey: The Videogame

Bluey: The Videogame is headed to the PC (Steam), PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X platforms on November 17. Distribution is being handled by Outright Games, a self-described “family-friendly video games publisher,” with development duties by Artax Games.

The marketing thus far makes it seem like a hangout game, with four player multiplayer on the table (for each family member: the titular Bluey, her younger sister Bingo, and her parents Chili and Bandit), with a focus on minigames, co-op challenges, and exploration.

Unlockables are also in, according to the game’s official site: “Explore and collect items for your sticker book, unlock outfits and uncover the many secrets and hidden references throughout each location”

Every parent should give the Bluey TV show a shot

It’s hard to describe what makes Bluey special without outright spoiling some episodes: but suffice it to say, the secret sauce is heart. The program does its best to not talk down to kids, which also gives adults something to chew on while watching each episode. As a result, the quality checks kind of just fall into place naturally.

You don’t need to be a kid or a parent specifically to get anything out of it either. Bluey frequently deals with realistic issues like marital strife, loss, and fleeting friendships: things anyone can relate to. If I’ve sold you on it already, you can watch it on Disney+ in the US.

Ideally, this upcoming family game will capture even a fraction of the spirit of the show.
