In recent times, we’ve seen that many of us aren’t afraid of more challenging games. In a post-Demon’s Souls world, we’ll pass on the hand-holding, thanks. I’m personally a fan of player choice, so I think CD Projekt is doing it right with The Witcher 2.
Lead designer Mateusz Kanik talked up the game’s difficulty settings to Eurogamer. There’s Easy, Medium, Hard, and finally, what you came here for: Insane. In that last one, “You can save the game, but when you die the saves are disabled.”
And don’t think you can just bypass the enemies, either. “It won’t be easy to not fight the monsters. We fixed that by giving all opponents special abilities which allow them to catch the Witcher.” For instance, “Undead can dig into the ground and get up near the player.”
Kanik says an achievement will be tied to Insane difficulty, so let’s hope you’re either up for the challenge or aren’t OCD about pieces of text that show your in-game accomplishments.
