Best of 2013

2013 was a big year for action with so many longtime running franchises that brought us sequels and reboots to games we’ve been enjoying for over a decade now. Plus, there were a couple of new games that made the cut that were all equally hard to put the controller down. Just one more level!

As a reminder, here are our nominees for best action game of 2013:

And the winner is…

Tomb Raider

It’s quite fitting that Tomb Raider takes home our best action game of 2013. Arguably one of the biggest action series ever created, Tomb Raider has been around for close to two decades now surviving multiple developers and publishers, not to mention receiving a couple of reboots along the way.

The new Tomb Raider was able to defy the odds with its return. It succeeded in capturing the spirit of the original titles, while giving us a fresh new perspective on Lara Croft herself with this origin story.

Congrats to Crystal Dynamics for defying the odds and bringing a series back to life.

That was our pick for best action game of 2013. As for our community poll, you all voted The Last of Us as your number one action game of 2013. That was followed by Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.
