The winner of Destructoid’s best 2013 adventure game

Best of 2013

I like to think of adventure games as the games that make you think. They are the ones that keep you awake at night not because your pulse is pounding but because your brain is on fire.

Here are the nominees for 2013 adventure game of the year.

And the winner is …

The Stanley Parable HD

It was never really a choice. There are no real choices, you see. Oh, sure, we could have stood around in a broom closet instead of giving the 2013 adventure game of the year award to The Stanley Parable HD, but it would have been futile in the end.

The Stanley Parable will make you question what choice is, what it means for games and narrative, and you may never look at other games the same way again once you’ve experienced it. Presented with whip-smart writing, brilliantly delivered, and a with shocking amount of detail placed within its environments, there’s plenty of sugar to help that spoonful of heady philosophy down. Congratulations to Galactic Cafe!

For our community voting portion, you all voted The Stanley Parable HD as best adventure of 2013. That was followed by The Wolf Among Us, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
