The voice of Ryo reintroduces us to the eclectic cast of Shenmue I and II

Still due on August 21

We’re just a few weeks away from the re-releases of Shenmue I and II, as they’re set to arrive on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on August 21.

To celebrate Sega is putting out a series called “What is Shenmue,” a mostly non-spoilery set of videos that provides some background for newcomers. Part one focuses on the narrative, and part two, which was just released today, is all about the cast. The series seamlessly spans both games so if you want to go in blind on either entry consider skipping it.

Given that Corey Marshall, the English voice of the protagonist Ryo is narrating these, it’s really tugging at my heartstrings. Shenmue means a lot to me and the second game in particular got me through some tough times, so I’ll be ready to play a game of Lucky Hit all over again later this month.
