The Sonic movie leans even harder into nostalgia with its official theme song

‘Speed Me Up’

After the ill-fated original reveal, the PR campaign push for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie has been night and day.

Not only did the classic character get a full-on redesign, but that re-debut trailer extremely leaned into the Green Hill Zone and Sonic’s retro roots. Just a month away from release, the new official music video is leaning in even harder. The song is called “Speed Me Up,” featuring Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Yachty & Sueco the Child, and begins with the former blowing into a cartridge and playing a faux retro game based on the film.

It sure sounds like an alright chill Wiz Khalifa song! The powers that be were smart to pick people that probably grew up on these games to be their ambassadors. Sonic songs are typically big moments in franchise history, and this original work sure beats a weird use of Gangsta’s Paradise.
