The RetroN 5 is my childhood of gaming in one box

Coming real soon

Hyperkin’s RetroN 5 console will be released in the Americas for $140 beginning June 6, 2014. It seems to be sold out for the time being, so I hope you got your pre-order in.

This thing is a beast, supporting NES, Famicom, SNES, Super Famicom, Genesis, Mega Drive, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and GBA cartridges. All of that, with 720p output via HDMI and original controller support.

Despite having an older system of similar functionality (albeit only NES/SNES games) and not loving the thing — it struggles with compatibility, sometimes — I’m on the fence here. Like, if only the RetroN 5 had Nintendo 64 support; I’d be able to save so much space.

As it stands, I have all of these original consoles crammed into an old entertainment center housing a chunky standard-def television. It’s a mess. And, yes, people like me are aware emulation exists. No need to inform us! Keep on scrollin’.
