The Plucky Squire is an imaginative new 2D and 3D combo adventure game

Endless color and creativity

I’m always on the lookout for creative new titles that are doing things in games that we haven’t seen quite yet, and The Plucky Squire looks to be exactly that. We got a glimpse at the game during today’s Devolver Digital Showcase, and the trailer showcased adorable 2D gameplay that took place in a storybook, before shifting to 3D gameplay, and back to 2D again. The gameplay itself looks like a combination of side-scrolling and hack-and-slash gameplay, with some puzzles and fighting game sections?

I honestly love the fact that I can’t pin down exactly what this experience will be like, because that likely means it will keep us on our toes the whole way through. It’s colorful, it’s playful, and looks like a breath of fresh air in this year’s sea of dark, violent sci-fi shooters. The Plucky Squire is in development by All Possible Futures, and of course will be published by Devolver Digital. No release date yet, but the game is available to wishlist on Steam right now, and it will be coming out on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and Nintendo Switch sometime in 2023.
