The PlayStation Essentials sale on PS4 games is worth a look

Dead Cells is discounted, so you know what to do

Sony is running an extensive sale on “must-have titles for every PlayStation library” until Tuesday, February 5. It’s already been a lively month for new game releases, so you might not have the budget right now, but there are titles worth splurging on if you feel like giving yourself a present.

Namely, Dead Cells, the incredible-feeling roguelike action game that many of us wouldn’t shut up about last year and won’t stop praising anytime soon. Dead Cells is a must-play for fans of Castlevania. It’s 25 percent off, which brings the price down to $18.74 ($17.49 if you have PlayStation Plus).

If you’re looking for a whale of a game to sink countless evenings into, Persona 5 is $34.99 (24.99 with PS Plus). The more recent rhythm game spin-offs are also discounted. Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight and Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight can be had for $47.99 (or $41.99 with PS Plus) a piece.

Also, Burnout Paradise Remastered is firmly in impulse-buy territory now that the Essentials sale has knocked it down to $7.99 ($5.99 with PS Plus). The remaster is more of a way to have the open-city racer on an easily-accessible current platform than anything else, so while the new paint of coat isn’t going to blow you away, it’s worth it just to play through the acrobatic multiplayer challenges again.

Here are other assorted picks that range in quality and interest:

  • Battlefield V for $35.99 ($29.99 with PS Plus)
  • Crypt of the Necrodancer for $5.99 ($2.99 with PS Plus)

We’ve seen better prices on some of these games before, but sometimes you miss your chance and just aren’t patient enough to wait around. For an easy-to-skim look at every deal, consult this post and then this post on ResetEra. (The storefront is such a pain.) The discounts run until February 5 at 8:00am PT.

Shame we can’t gift games to friends and family on PlayStation Network. I’d stock up.
