The now-legally distinct Nightmare Kart revs up for a May 31 launch, and it’ll be free

New look, same flavor.

You can still see the references, but the characters have been redesigned to look distinct from Bloodborne’s cast. However, much of it looks the same, as things like the bike and the environments don’t seem to have changed much.

Nightmare Kart is a PS1-inspired kart racing game. It began as an April Fool’s Day joke by the developer of the Bloodborne PS1 before they decided to turn it into a real thing. It was set to adapt the classic PS4 title into what has become regarded as a degrading genre for licenses to fall into.

However, this past January, Sony finally stepped in to give the development team a warning. While Lilith Walther didn’t say it was a DMCA takedown, the team knew something like this was going to happen and decided to delay the release of the game to make it more legally distinct. However, while this could mean that the team would now be able to put a pricetag on their work, they have decided not to, as Nightmare Kart will be available for free.

Nightmare Kart will be released on PC May 31, 2024.
