Pluto is lost in the valley somewhere, and you’re the only one who can get him back in Disney Dreamlight Valley. The mission that allows you to finally unlock him is called The Moose Hunt, and it’s a fairly tricky quest to get through.

Mickey’s beloved canine friend is by far one of the trickiest characters to unlock in the village, as he’s got a massive list of prerequisites to check off first. How to start The Moose Hunt quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley

To kick off The Moose Hunt quest, you first need to have met all the required prerequisites for unlocking Pluto, as this is the mission where you finally recruit him. Here’s everything you need to have done to trigger this mission and get going on unlocking him.

• Unlock Lady and Tramp.
• Complete The Spaghetti Incident quest.
• Complete the Life’s a Meatball quest.

• Obtain all Mementos.

As long as the requirements are met, The Moose Hunt quest will trigger automatically as soon as you complete the A Curious Dish quest with Lady. With The Moose Hunt quest active, track down Merlin in the valley to chat with him about what you discovered with Lady during the A Curious Dish quest and learn the latest intel he’s uncovered about the Mementos you’ve collected.

Gather items for Merlin’s Memento spell

Something strange and magical is going on, and to get to the bottom of it, you need to gather items for Merlin’s Memento spell. When you reach this point, you should already have most of the items you need; they just might be tucked away in storage. Here’s what’s required for his spell.

• 10 Vitalys Crystals – Can be mined from rock spots around the Vitalys Mines.
• 15 Stone – Can be mined from rock spots anywhere.
• Special Plush Bear Sewing Machine – Given to you by Merlin right before this part of the quest as a replacement for the New Comfort Bear. He transferred the magic from the bear to this item to make the process easier. You get the bear by raising your friendship with Joy and Sadness to level 10, then completing their Create A Bear quest.
• The Secret Journal – Complete Jasmine’s level 10 friendship quest, Wild, Wild Wishes.
• Kaleidoscope – Complete Alice’s level 10 friendship quest, Very Merry Unbirthday.
• Birthday Party Invitation – Complete the A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping quest with Cogsworth and Lumiere in the Beauty and the Beast Realm after unlocking Belle and the Beast.
• Nostalgic Instant Photos – Complete Cinderella’s level seven friendship quest, A Dream Come True.
• Pluto’s Collar – Pieced back together during the A Curious Dish quest using the Well-Loved Dog Collar from the Meatballs quest and a pendant you find with Lady during the A Curious Dish mission.

Meet Merlin in the Vitalys Mines

With all of the required pieces of Merlin’s Memento spell gathered, head to the Vitalys Mines to meet up with him. This secret area can be found tucked away under the north end of the waterfall that runs through the Sunlit Plateau biome. Chat with Merlin inside to give him the items you gathered.

Follow Mickey as he searches for the portal in the Vitalys Mines

Using the spell you made, Merlin manages to open a special portal. Only, he’s not sure exactly where this portal appeared. Follow Mickey deeper into the mines to search for the portal. Eventually, he’ll stop right by a glowing blue portal with Pluto trapped behind some vines in front of it. Chat with Mickey about how to rescue the poor pup.

Equip Pluto as a Companion

Working through the quest dialogue with Mickey causes Pluto and the portal to disappear, but you can still sense him nearby. Open your inventory, navigate to the Wardrobe page, and select the Merlin quest icon to equip Pluto as a Companion.

Go back to Merlin

Pluto is finally here! Run back to Merlin near the Vitalys Mines entrance to chat with him and give him an update on the situation. Navigate through the quest dialogue that follows with him and Mickey to progress.

Place the Memento Display Shelf anywhere in the valley

You’ve overcome all of the intense emotions associated with the strange Mementos, reconnecting with a lost canine friend along the way. Merlin wants you to display a Memento Display Shelf in the village as a testament to your strength, so exit the mines and place it anywhere you like. All of the villagers who helped you collect Mementos will then assemble for a big group photo by it. Snap at least one picture with the group to progress to the final step.

Chat with Merlin one last time to officially finish The Moose Hunt quest. After this, Pluto is unlocked and can be freely equipped as a Companion at any time from the Wardrobe. He can also be assigned to hang out with certain villagers he’s close with, like Mickey Mouse. Pluto specializes in fishing, which means he can gather this resource when he’s with you while fishing.
