The Minecraft movie is still three years out

Oh, right, this is happening

Warner Bros.’ big-screen adaptation of Minecraft is scheduled for May 24, 2019.

“Yes, that might seem like a long time away, but it just so happens to be the right amount of time to make it completely awesome,” wrote developer Mojang in a blog post today. “And we all want an awesome Minecraft movie, right?”

That distant date helps explain why we know so little about the project other than that It’s Always Sunny‘s Rob McElhenney is directing. Love that guy, and I hope he has room to get weird with it.

I can’t possibly form an opinion about the movie yet (what will it even be?), but if it’s identifiable as something he had a hand in, I might be interested in seeing it. Just not in a theater. Sorry, kids, but you can be insufferable audience members and, uh, you prooobably shouldn’t be reading this site.
