It has been a long time since I’ve visited Arthur’s Hall of Viking Manliness. Last time Destructoid was there, The Vikings had a article called the 10 Manliest Videogame Characters of All Time. That article, by the way, made our buddies at AeroPause come up with a counter list called the Top 10 Girliest Videogames of All Time, which also gave me an excuse to use the picture of Nerdcore model simply known as Super Nintendo Girl.
The Vikings are back now with a new article focusing on the five Manliest Videogame Consoles of All Time. I won’t spoil the list here, but I will say that the Dreamcast starts off the list:
… Still, the Dreamcast isn’t really manly because of it’s hardware specs … the Dreamcast is manly entirely because of it’s fantastic lineup of manly games.
Case in point: the Dreamcast launched with NFL 2K. American Football is by far the greatest and manliest sport the world has ever seen. NFL 2K was a Sega-designed exclusive launch title for the Dreamcast that was years ahead of the competition in almost every way. I remember the first time I saw the game running at my friend’s house… I thought for more than a passing moment that I was watching an ESPN broadcast.
The rest of the consoles on the list are all extremely retro with number one being a good choice. Mostly because of the one thing they forgot to say on their list: The cartridges were huge!
